I’m not sure what I was expecting, but the asparagus crowns really took me by surprise. I planted them only about two weeks ago, and then this weekend, I suddenly realized that we had a bunch of tall thin shoots. Yes, they’re taller and skinnier than asparagus you would find in the grocery store, but it’s recognizable asparagus. Two weeks? Vegetables do not usually grow this fast!
And asparagus doesn’t either, of course, because you can’t harvest any of the stalks the first year. But take a look:
