I’ve been doing a lot of weeding lately, so I’ve decided it’s time to make mulching a higher priority to help keep the weeds down. I’ve been slowly adding it around the larger plants. In the photo below, you can see the dried leaves around the salad greens and basil plants. I tend to use oak leaves a lot, simply because we have so many of them. Each fall I take the leaves from the front yard, and move them around to the backyard for use as mulch during the spring and summer. They don’t go as far as you might think. By mid-summer I’m usually out and I have to turn to hay or straw. That’s saying something because we have a couple of enormous trees in the front yard.
