I didn’t really intend to plant garlic this year. I set some aside from my crop last year to plant in the fall, but then didn’t plant it, because we were planning to have someone plow the garden, and the garlic would have been right in the path of the tractor. By the time we got the garden tilled it was mid-April — pretty late to plant garlic. But meanwhile, in the garage, the garlic bulbs I had all but forgotten about were sprouting. So I thought, “why not?” (a phrase that pretty well sums up my approach to gardening) and got the garlic in the ground on April 14. No idea how well it will ultimately do, but I guess we’ll see!
